The Future Remains Uncertain
Since the last report regarding budget cuts at Swansea CBC the on-line survey closed and the results were analysed. Consequentially, the budget proposals were accepted with minor modifications.
However, as regards the changes to be made in cultural services there have been no alterations or reductions. This means that the intention to reduce service facility at Neath provided at the Neath Mechanics Institute will progress.
The result will be a 50% reduction in opening hours. Presently, there has been no communication or consultation from the County Archivist as to how he intends the reduced service to operate.
It is likely that a TWO day service will result whereby it will be essential to operate pre-booking for family history research and that the professional assistance to researchers will become diluted.
Access by researchers to the archive of documents, maps, plans and photographs held by the Neath Antiquarian Society housed within the Neath Mechanics Institute may have to be made by individual appointment.
