Considering that we were given only FIVE working days to present objections etc. the response was terrific and the NAS wish to thank all of you who got involved.
Both the County Archivist and the Head of Cultural Services received numerous letters of objection.
A good many people also registered their displeasure through the on-line survey which closed on 24th January.
Several petitions were collected and these have been forwarded.
The Trustees and Chairman of the NAS convened a meeting with two Neath & Port Talbot Councillors who sit on the west Glamorgan archive Committee. They are aggrieved with the situation and the manner in which it has been dealt with due to the fact that the operation at Neath is a Joint Archive venture with Swansea and they had not been informed or consulted.
Following our discussions with them they met with the Leader of the NPT Council and are seeking to convene a meeting with the County Archivist and the relevant Cabinet Member of the City of Swansea CBC.
At a public meeting with Carwyn Jones, the First Minister for Wales a member of the NAS voiced objections from the floor.
Objections have been sent from Gwenda Thomas our Assembly Member for Neath.
Although the Member of Parliament for Neath, Christina Rees has not responded to our initial contact, she has been made aware of the situation at a public event this weekend.
So, we feel that a good effort has been made in a very narrow window of opportunity. We await developments.
